MSA Awards

Statement of inclusivity:

The MSA values diversity and recognizes the challenges individuals may face in their careers. For the awards below, the judging panels will take into account  adverse circumstances that applicants may have encountered. Please include a cover letter with your application to briefly explain any disruptions to your career trajectory or circumstances affecting your situation.

MSA early career award

Made to a Society Member early in their career whose work reflects excellence in line with the mission of the society. Contributions may be an outstanding record of research and publication, making outstanding collections, safeguarding unique malacological materials through public service, teaching or outreach activities in the area of malacology.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a member of the MSA at the time of application.
  • Individuals no more than five (5) years past completion of their PhD, adjustments to timeframe can be made to account for career disruptions.

Awarded:

  • At society conferences.
  • Recognition of outstanding achievement, an invitation to present at the conference and a society membership for the following year.

Application:

  • A 300-word nomination, explaining the contributions of the nominee to malacology (optional: a cover letter, see statement of inclusivity above).
  • Agreement, from the nominator, to provide further information about the nominee’s contribution if the panel requests it.
  • An application can be made by an individual or on the behalf of an individual.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Awards will be granted annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in late November. Forward an electronic copy of the application to Priscila Salloum (psal591@aucklanduni.ac.nz).

MSA mid-career award

Made to a Member early in their career whose work reflects excellence inline with the mission of the society. Contributions may be an outstanding record of research and publication, making outstanding collections, safeguarding unique malacological materials through public service, teaching or outreach activities in the area of malacology.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a member of the MSA at the time of application.
  • Individuals more than five (5) years but less than fifteen (15) years past completion of their PhD, adjustments to timeframe can be made to account for career disruptions.

Awarded:

  • At society conferences.
  • Recognition of outstanding achievement, an invitation to present at the conference and a society membership for the following year.

Application:

  • A 300-word nomination, explaining the contributions of the nominee to malacology (optional: a cover letter, see statement of inclusivity above).

  • Individuals with a sustained contribution to malacology over many years.

Awarded:

  • At society conferences.
  • Recognition of outstanding achievement, an invitation to present at the conference and a society membership for the following year.

Application:

  • A 300-word nomination, explaining the contributions of the nominee to malacology (optional: a cover letter, see statement of inclusivity above).

Outstanding achievement in malacology by individuals who do not make a living full-time from malacology. Contributions may be an outstanding record of research and publication, making outstanding collections, safeguarding unique malacological materials through public service, teaching or outreach activities in the area of malacology, or significant collaborations with professional malacologists.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a member of the MSA at the time of application.
  • Individuals do not make a living full-time from malacology.

Awarded:

  • At society conferences.
  • Recognition of outstanding achievement, an invitation to present at the conference and a society membership for the following year.

Application:

  • A 300-word nomination, explaining the contributions of the nominee to malacology (optional: a cover letter, see statement of inclusivity above).
